Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes, I am reserved with my boyfriend and I can not enjoy a bathing suit. I am also uncomfortable wearing a shirt that showes "cleavage" I have none since the indent on my left side is very noticable.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I am just know realizing why I am always so tired and feel out of breath when barely doing anything. I thought it was smoking but I noticed it when I was 10 and played soccer. My breasts are not even, either. I am very lopsided and that bugs me most. I also have scoliosis but just found out today and I go tomorrow for a series of tests. I want to have it all fixed so I can feel as pretty as everyone tells me I am. I didn't notice most of this until my early 20's. My ribs are uneven also. All in all it pretty much has killed my self esteem. I am now on Zoloft for that and hopefully can have surgery someday.
What do you think of this website?I feel imformed so far.

Comments This website has really helped me understand my condition... And to be more vigilant when my children are suffering chest infections etc...By the way I am a nurse and even my GP was a little fuzzy on what exactly Pectus Excavatum was!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? No as I have only just been diagnoised.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I have always had chest/respiritory problems since being a young child. This was put down to a bad bout of Pleurasy at a young age... so this diagnoses makes a lot of sense to me..
What do you think of this website?I think its really good that there is a website. This condition seems to be little known or publicised. So thank you.

CommentsIm am 14 years old and i have had Pectus Carinatum since i was about 7 and it has worsened within the yrs. my right side of my chest sicks out,but my left side is pretty normal. In the past, surgery was deffantily a no to me..but now im thinking about it and im going to a doctor to see if its a good idea. but the only problem is we dont have that much money so i dont think we will be able to pay for the it. :(
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes it does effect me quite a bit..i am Extremaly self concious about going swimming and having people see it, and im always trying to cover it up some how. I also can`t wear certain tops that are tight or low cut, and becuase my bones stick out i have a hard time finding bras that fit right.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? No not really, I am in Cross Country and Basketball and i have no trouble with breathing or running, but occasionaly I have minor Cheast pains.

CommentsMy son had a small dip in his chest when he was little. The doctor use to make comments on it and tell me that it was no big deal. Well I am here as a mother to say yes it is a big deal. My son is now almost 18 years old. Never takes his shirt off and is given a hard time in school because of this. I told him if he wants surgery to fix it we would do it. He refuses but deep down I know he wants to fix it. He is 6' 3" and 130 lbs as if having a concave chest isn't bad enough he is tall and skinny. His self esteem is low. I am afraid if he gets hit in his chest it would kill him. He says no one else in school is like that but I think he just doesn't know about them because they are like him and do not remove their shirt...ever. So people that say it doesnt affect their mentle state....you are wrong.
