Comments	We have found this web site to be very informative. My husband and I both have pectus excavatum. I am 30 and he is 45, and neither of us has had surgery done to remedy the condition. He grew up in Cuba and never had any particular difficulties. Although he was at times uncomfortable walking around without a shirt on, he never had poor self-esteem. When he began to have hair on his chest, it was much less noticeable. The condition seems to have affected me more growing up. I felt uncomfortable as an adolescent, but as I got older, I have had fewer problems. I have had some asthmatic tendencies, and was diagnosed with micro valve prolapse--although another doctor later told me it had been a misdiagnosis. Meeting each other was very serendipitous--and has led each of us to talk more about our feelings around our chests. We both also have histories of six toes in our families. I was born with six toes on one foot--the sixth extra pinkie toe was later removed when I was only a year old. My husband's grandmother also had six toes. Our odd similarities have been a joke between us, but after reading this website I wonder if it is not all related. Our primary concern now is that we would like to have a child. We are somewhat concerned that our child will have the same condition/deformity. We are both also concerned that my chest might cause complications during a pregnancy. I have been fairly athletic in my life (played college volleyball and ran high school track) and never had any respiratory problems, but I would love to know the experiences of other women with pectus excavatum who have gone on to have children.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes, I had a very difficult time with my chest as an adolescent, but it has gotten easier as I have gotten older. My husband has had less trauma, though he says that he still was rather self conscious as an adolescent.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Neither of us has had any physical problems, but we are concerned about complications with a pregnancy.

Comments	I recieved the Nuss procedure one week ago today. Everything is going great. Last night was my first sleep lying on my back in my own bed. First week was extremely painful but today I feel much better.

It has been tough growing up with pectus not only because of the merciless teasing my brother and I had to deal with ,but also the grief my parents and physicians gave us about complaining about it. We essentially had no right to complain about it because others in this world had it much worse than we did.

I'm a hockey player and avid downhill skier and have always felt that my wind was very restricted throughout my sports history.I'm 30 now and about two years ago I began to develop chest pains.These pains frightened me so I began to research my condition and then sought medical help.
