| Comments | I am 23 years old and have been battling with the phsychological effects of sunken chest. The first time I noticed I was different when I was about 8 or 9 and a kid at the pool asked why my chest was 'pushed in'. I didnt have an answer for him. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | Yes, in my pre-teen and teenage years I was very self concious. Often I dreaded being the skins in basketball games in PE. I hated it. I am 23 now and am still worrying about it. I have low self esteem and am working through it. I am getting better. You have to realize that its in your head, no one really cares about it except yourself. All my my girlfriends have seen me shirtless many many times and have never mentioned it or even stared at it. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Yes, I would say I am a medium case. Not too bad but still not good. It is pretty depressed and it affects my breathing, hearbeat, and stamina. I have rounded shoulders and my stomach sticks out. I am a skinny guy so when someone touches my back, they often feel my vetebrae sticking out and are like "huh?" |
| What do you think of this website? | This website is awesome. I think there should be a message board or chatroom added on. |

| Comments | I've always known I had, what my family called the "sunken chest" And I've been very self conscience about it for as long as I can remember. My father and grandfather have it, but theres has become far less noticeable over the years, so that gives me hope. I'm 16 now, and although I've done my best to keep it to myself most of my friends, and girlfriend, now know about it. After seeing the pictures, and hearing other peoples stories, I've decided My chest isn't as bad as some of the more extreme cases. I'm very greatful for all your information, Its help me find alittle more pride to know I'm not alone. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | It used to. But I'm getting on with my life now. Although I do have fears if I ever have children, theirs might be worse, I'd hate to have my children go through that. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Not really, I'm very thin and lanky for my age, but so was my dad, i think that makes it more noticible, but doesn't cause any physical problems |
| What do you think of this website? | Its been a god sent to me. Thank you. |

| Comments | I am a 14 year old male with pectus carinatum so says my doctor. I think weight lifting has made it more visible to the point were I have to wear loose fitting shirts and hunch over just a little bit to make it less noticable. I really started noticing it when I was in the 7th grade (I am now in the 9th). I don't know if it's just me but it seems like it's getting worse. I think I'm going to not lift as much and see if that helps any. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | I am a member of the school's wrestling team and it is often brought to my attention. I usually just change the subject or explain to the what it is. |
