Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I think it has affected me psychologically in the past but at 57 I am used to it. Traits such as low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, school phobia and remaining in the parental home until my mid-30s, which I certainly have or had, seem to be statistically linked to pectus deformity.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I suppose it must have done. I have always walked, with or without a dog, for a couple of miles a day, on average, strenuously, as a substitute for more 'violent' forms of exercise, which I could not sustain. I leant to swim 3 years ago and now swim 5 times a week. When I was at school, I did not take part in any organised PE or sports.
What do you think of this website?	I think that it is very informative and it makes me feel les of a freak than some GPs have tended to do in the past, expressing surprise at the chest that confronts their stethoscopes. And I seem to share most of the personality characteristics associated with pectus deformities. So there is a reassuring feling that I am not alone. One point: two GPs have told me recently that my pectus excavatum is the effect of undiagnosed asthma as a child (I was diagnosed asthmatic about 10 years ago). But it seems to congenital. Is this a matter of dispute and ongoing research?

Comments	I'm just so amaze i'm 34 years old and i was born with pectus excavatum. All the feelings that people go through i understand so cleary, i've been there. I just had surgery a year and 6 months ago but til this day i suffer worse with pain and now scars.

Comments	Just discovered that my problem has a name! I've never approached my Dr. as I believed that PE was just something to be put up with. I am 34, married with 2 kids. I keep my PE hidden from the world to the best of my ability. I never take my top off in public and being skinny doesn't help. I don't think I'd have the guts to go through surgery if it weren't a medical requirement but it's good to know your options.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. I take great care with what I wear. I never sunbathe or swim. I avoid situations where I may be expected to go topless. This is becoming more of a problem as I really want to get in the water with my kids. I'm just too self concious.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I hardly ever take part in serious exercise so I'm not particularly fit anyway. I do think that I have a lack of stamina.

Comments	My daughter has been diagnosed with pectus carinatum. She will have to wait another 2-3 years for surgery as she is still growing. She is one of the lucky ones.

Comments	Interested in finding any non-surgical techniques, treatments etc. available for my 13 year old w/ mild PE
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. My son refuses to take off his shirt. Because he is 13 and 5'10 adn thin - his mild PE is very noticeable. We ahd to consult w/ surgeons because he wanted to consider surgery for correction.
