Comments	I dont have a really bad pectus excavatum (funnel chest) and really havent noticed it untill today. I new somthing was up with my chest when i was in 7th grade but i really didnt no it was a medical condition. My parents told me that when i was younger they took me into me doctor but the doctor said their was absolutly nothing wrong and it would get better as i got older. By viewing this site iv decided to go to a doctor to get more information about it. I dont no if i would consider surgery, it has not bothered me at all and i have a very insevere case. I have had none of the symtoms like: shortage of breath, chest pains, and chest infections. By viewing this website i have realized i am not alone. others have this problem and i didnt even no that you could fix it. If you have this problem or have gone through a surgery to fix it please email me. I would really like to meet someone who has the same condition i have or has gotten it fixed.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	No it really hasnt. I do very well in school (socially) and no one has really noticed it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	No it doesnt. I am involved in football, basketball, baseball, and cross country. I am the fastest kid in my class (mile) and the only thing i have noticed is sometimes i have slite chest pains when touched.

Comments	My 12-year old son has a mild case of pectus excavatum. He has had chest pains since about age 7 (on and off). Lately he has had some major growth spurts - he is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall (and is estimated to grow to 6 feet, 4 inches). This week he grew 3 inches in one night, and he has had some painful chest pains this week that can not be explained (x-rays were taken). I will be going to see a specialist as soon as I find out from our doctor who to see. Meanwhile, does anyone know if this is common - to have pain during growth spurts? Will it get worse - and could his ribs turn in quite a bit more (and maybe puncture a lung?). So far his pediatrician looks at my sons chest yearly, and insists it is mild (and the appearance of his chest so far looks really great - it looks like he has been working out). Any information would be helpful. We have been to a cardiologist to rule out heart problems already. Thanks.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	It does not appear to affect my 12-year old son. He is tall, and good looking. Although slender, he is not a "beanpole", and his chest looks great (his pediatrian pointed this out to him that he looked good - when he was first told he had pectus excavatum). Also, the pediatrian pointed out to my son that many men work out to try and achieve the dent in their chest - which my son has naturally - and he was told he was lucky! (or was that just a set up?)
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	It may be the cause of chest pains my son is having now. Also, when he runs and is out of breath, he will have chest pains that last a few seconds.

Comments	I have had pectus excavatum my whole life.

Comments	My 4 year old son has pectus carinatum. His pediatrician referred me to Dr. Donald Nuss. Two doctors have told me he is the best in the world for correcting this deformity. That is reassuring. I never realized there was anything really wrong with my little boy. I'm thankful one of his pediatricians asked me about it. I'd rather he not have to have surgery but if he does I'm glad the best Dr. is 20 miles away from me.

Comments	i once thought that i could just put up with the jokes, taunts and embrasesment. im 22 now and for as long as can remember i've always wanted a normal chest, so i can enjoy time on a beach or in the pool and all the small things that matter. up to now i've put a brave face on and dealt with the problem, but now my nephew got P.E and i want to find a way so he can have a chance at feeling better about himself.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	i would be lying if i said no, its always been on the back of my mind. it has restricted my life to the extent that i felt i would never be excepted so i held myself back. i guess its just a case of wanting to be excepted and feeling confordent with myself.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	i dont think my derformity has stopped me physically, i've always been a good swimmer and keep fit with regular exercise. the only prob has been for getting changed before sports.
What do you think of this website?	its been a great help answering questions i've had on the back of my mind for years. its also made me feel alot better about myself cos now i know im not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Comments	I am a 15 year old boy, and I have Pectus Excavatum. It was a condition that I was born with. I have recently consulted a doctor and look forward to undergoing to Nuss Procedure this Summer. Some side comments that I will add are that I have chosen to keep my condition secret, and not tell anyone. This is becoming increasingly harder the older I get. Due to my condition, I have extremly low self esteem, no self confidence and I am absolutly ashamed of the way my chest is shaped. All my life I have had to come up with excuses and exclude myself from activiteis, and it hurts to do this.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. I am extremly ashamed of the shape of my chest. I dont understand why I just couldent be born normal. Due to my condition I have extremly low self esteem and no self confidence.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Currently it's undetermined if my trouble breathing is from my Asthma or from the stress this disorder puts on my heart and lungs. Really I dont even know if I have asthma or if the breathing troubles I have are just from this disorder.
What do you think of this website?	I appreciate the website very much. The people who took the time and effort to put this information out there I once again thank you for doing this it has been helpful. I live an hour and a half drive from the Hospital where I will be having my surgery done at so I cant always ask the questions I need to ask. That is why I came looking on the internet and found it. Up until I visited my doctor's office I did not even know the name of my disorder.
