CommentsI'm a 36 yr old male and have PE, primarily on the left side of my chest. It has never affected me physically as I have participated in sports, and other activities and continue to do so. I continuosly workout hoping to improve the area in hopes to build it up but it's still quite visible. I would like to see and talk to a doctor in this area to see what can be done. Can you recommend anyone in the Miami area?
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Somewhat. Especially when I have to partake in water and outdoor activities. I tend to be more self conscience and grow somewhat anxious.

Commentsim a 19 year old male and its got progressively worse over the last 2/3 years. i have pectus carinatum which i think is quite severe, although i have never seen anyone else with it. my chest sticks out about 2". my left ribcage curves inward toward my heart, i have had problems with heart fluctuations and stomach problems but dont know if that is related. i also have pretty bad scoliosis of the spine which i definately believe is related.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Absolutely. i suffer from depression and insomnia, both of which i would say are directly caused by it. i have zero self-esteem, and although i have lots of friends etc. i have never had a serious girlfriend. im simply not able to expose my chest. im very self concious and constantly find myself toching my chin to cover my chest with my arm or sitting awkwardly which worsens my scoliosis.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?although i am quite slim, im very unfit. i believe this is because of the shape of my chest not allowing to breath properly when exercising. other than that its just uncomfortable, i cant sleep on my side as it makes it stick out even further and actually hurts, sleeping on my front causes me to breath erratically. this has led to horrible sleep patterns where i cant sleep till i am completely exhausted. therefore keeping a job has been very difficult. i feel like i cant get on with my life until this is sorted.
What do you think of this website?i was reading some crappy novel when something came up about a 'pigeon chest' so i went on the net and found this site. i was amazed to find that this is a diagnozed, operable problem. i was fillipantly thinking about suicide before i found this site, not that i would, it just kept creeping into my mind. now that i know there is an operation it gives me something to latch onto. its given me the choice of going to a doctor, although its been over 6months since i found the site. i guess i should make an appointment soon.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes, I am reserved with my boyfriend and I can not enjoy a bathing suit. I am also uncomfortable wearing a shirt that showes "cleavage" I have none since the indent on my left side is very noticable.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I am just know realizing why I am always so tired and feel out of breath when barely doing anything. I thought it was smoking but I noticed it when I was 10 and played soccer. My breasts are not even, either. I am very lopsided and that bugs me most. I also have scoliosis but just found out today and I go tomorrow for a series of tests. I want to have it all fixed so I can feel as pretty as everyone tells me I am. I didn't notice most of this until my early 20's. My ribs are uneven also. All in all it pretty much has killed my self esteem. I am now on Zoloft for that and hopefully can have surgery someday.
What do you think of this website?I feel imformed so far.
