Comments	Yesterday my life was turned upside down when I realised that the sunken chest I have lived with for 37 years is a recognised medical condition and that I am not alone. I too had the brush off from doctors as a child, who never gave me a clear answer to my questions. Now I am worried that my eight month old son will inherit the disorder or my four month old nephew (my brother has PE too). And if they do, how easy it will be to get the problem treated in Britain.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Not so much as an adult, but it certainly caused me a good deal of grief growing up. I was terrified of situations where I would have to take my shirt off and this certainly affected my love life!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Sometimes the point where my ribs curve is sensitive and I do get light palpitations of the heart from time to time. But I have never had a problem with sport and endurance; infact I was a medal-winning middle distance runner at school.
What do you think of this website?	Fantastic. It is really informative and helps me feel that I am not alone. It is also sad though, because it highlights the difference in attitudes of the medical professions towards this condition. The Americans seem way ahead in recognising and treating this condition, whilst the British seem to view it still as a cosmetic problem that simply must be lived with. Sad too, to read other mails from young people who are dealing with something I thought had only affected me.

Comments	Thank you so much for providing all of this information on your website! I always knew that I was for some reason different from all of the other children, but I never knew why. Now I know, and maybe now I can begin to overcome the problem for which I always blamed myself. Age: 18
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. I find it is very difficult for me to become close to anyone, especially anyone of the opposite sex, out of fear of rejection due to the fact that I do not look like other men. I am also uncomfortable with changing in front of others, and I stopped swimming (an activity I have always greatly enjoyed) because of how I looked.

Comments	I highly recommend this procedure before a person with p.e. enter adolescence.The teasing and insensitive comments I received have left impressions on me(i am now 36) to this day. I also suffer from asthma and have had occasional chest pains all my life.I would not call the procedure "cosmetic" at all. I consider myself fairly well-adjusted with good self-esteem overall, but I would describe my teenage and early adulthood years as tormented, full of self doubt and depression at times.

Comments	hello my name is rick i am 17yrs old i need to know if anyone could help me with my problem it is that the bone in the middle of my chest and a bit of 1 of my abs sticks out if push on it, it cracks and i sometimes get chest pains i would reallly really really be gratefull if some could help me my doctor said it cant be fixed he didn't tell me what it was but im pritty sure i got carinatum but i have seen other sites that said u can wear like a vest or something to make it fix up is that true? i also have friends that have it worse than i do and i will definatly tell them about ur site ty very much and i agree with another post i saw u neeed more info on carinatum
