CommentsI have had mild-to-mid-range P.E. (not half as bad as the example photo) since I was an infant, and I'm 25 now and luckily it didn't get worse as I grew up. My dad has it, too, but in a more mild fashion. When I was younger there was a chance to have surgery (prob the Ravitich method), but the insurance company balked at the pricetag and now as an adult, I'm pretty much all set with the way I am, though I'd like my posture to be a little better. The only thing I worry about is passing it on, but that's out of my hands. One thing does bother me, though, and maybe someone has an answer: does having P.E. keep you out of the US military? I'm not really interested in that currently, but it would be nice to have the option.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Growing up, it wasn't always easy, especially with swimming lessons, and I hated it for a long time. However, times change, and as an adult, I hardly even think about it, other than its effects on my posture, which I hope will improve with exercise and fitness training. The only reason I feel uncomfortable shirtless is that I need to tone up a lot. The pectus isn't a problem.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Posture, that's about it - I don't have scoliosis, but I have to make a constant conscious effort to push my shoulders back, which hopefully doesn't make me look strange or inflexible. Stamina and endurance haven't really a problem, and I can certainly hold my breath OK.
What do you think of this website?Good. I never thought to look this up before. Very interesting.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes. My deformity isn't the most severe deformity i've seen, but it really effects me psychologically. I can never take my shirt off in front of anyone, and I have problems in contact with other people.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? It does not bother me physically. I have done a lot of training and physical activities and have never had any problems at all. Of course I can never know how much better I had been without the deformity, but I'm now better in physical tests than most in my age.
What do you think of this website?Great site!
