CommentsI had surgery for my pectus carinatum almost five years ago. It was extremely painful, but the best thing that the hospital has ever done for me and my life quality.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?I used to try to hide my problem and was extremely embarrased about it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? There were no actual side affects physically. I have always been an ecceptional athelete, but quit playing team sports when I developed this problem.

CommentsI am a 43 year old woman with severe PE. The ridiculing from others about my appearance has never bothered me as much as the complications I seem to have from PE. I have a heart murmur and a lot of soradic chest pain. I am just now reading that there are different procedures out there now to help correct this problem but is there anything for someone my age where my cartiledge is already fully formed? If anyone knows of anything for someone my age can you please write back on this board or to my email address [email protected]

CommentsI got PE when I was a teen. It is so great to have a web-site to communicate with other families and persons with PE. I used to think I was the only person ever to have this defect. PE affects every aspect of one life from childhood on.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? No as much now, but when I was a teen, I never went shirtless, and was very shy around people. Even today, I have never had a relationship and have never married or had children. So at age 43, I just accept being single. I had surgery (Duke Medical Center...Durham, NC) in 1976 and have a 90% correction, so now my PE is not very noticable.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? When I was younger, I tired more quickly, and did not have the same physical strength the other guys had. I ovoided sports so I would not have to be shirtless. I learned to cross my arms lots to distract from my chest, and to wear lose fitting shirts.
What do you think of this website? It is wonderful to have a site to be able to communicate with others affected by PE.
