Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Definitely, and quite markedly. I only like to wear T shirts with a V neck. I am very nervous about exposing my chest to anyone other than my mother who obviously knows about it. I also walk with my shoulders rounded to minimise the protrusion which isn't too bad, but seems mssive in my mind.

Comments	My 16 year old son has just had Nuss bar pectus correction which was very successful. It was not a decision we took lightly and we met some opposition along the way but after a year of questioning we finally took the plunge as ultimately we had to respect our son's decision. Watching his self-esteem plummet meant it had to be done! Three weeks post- surgery he is still on painkillers but he is thrilled with his result and he is happy to walk around in this hot weather without a shirt!!!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	The shape of his chest meant he has chosen not to persue what was a promising career in sport. He stopped swimming in his early teens, dressed ready for PE uder his school uniform and was generally lacking in confidence. He was becoming very round-shouldered and was not making eye-contact with people for fear they noticed.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Around age 14- 15 he was struggling to keep up with rest of football team in training even though extremely fit. Made up for lack of stamina with skill! He frequently had pains in chest particularly following eating (dismissed by doctors as not related).

Comments	i have pectus carinatum, and due to my build its very noticeable...its always been a sore point to talk about and ive always wished it wasnt there. now i finally have found the source i need to look into getting it corrected..if anyone has had the op done id appreciate any feedback, costs, ease of appointments and after effects etc.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yeah ever since i noticed it at about age 13. My parents never sat down and talked to me about it, and it's only now at age 20 that i've looked for/found a website with the info! I never remove my top in front of people i don't know, i avoid going swimming and prefer to sweat on a hot day with a shirt on than walk around being stared at!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	chest aches (usually due to how im sat and for how long). Loss of breath and slight pain when doing anything physical..(this worsened with age and laziness)

Comments	Hey guys, this site is really good. I have PE and it's really nice ot know that im not alone. Your site has given me hope to know that i can change this part of my body which makes me feel so insecure. The psycological symptoms are all things i suffer from. I am now, thanks to your site, researching the best form of treatment for me, and finding a surgean which i trust to do it. If i do brave th operation i will definatly send in results. thanks you so much, you have started a big change in my life.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	definatly. most of my friends will tell you that i am extremly paranoid about everything, and i think that that stems from teh fact that i feel that i was unfairly gievn this PE at birth. I actually think it was worse that nobody pointed it out to me because i thoguht it was normal, untill i saw other guys with their shirts off, and realised that i was different. I hardly ever take my shirt of and even though i am of european descent, i am very white in complexion due to the fact that i am always covering up
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	i do slouch a bit, not alot though. I do feel short of breath at times, and can feel my heart faily heavily on my chest. i know now why i was never good at sport, becasue i would always be short of breath..but my teachers always told me i was just unfit. My case is fairly mild, but still enough to notice. The indent doesnt bother me as much as my ribs sticking out, but it would be great if i could get it fixed.
What do you think of this website?	i think its a great website giving enough information to do furthur research if you are interested. Its a small taste and definatly got me itnerested int the idea of surgery. it makes sufferers like myself reaslise that we arent alone. thankyou so much

Comments	I had surgery for my pectus carinatum almost five years ago. It was extremely painful, but the best thing that the hospital has ever done for me and my life quality.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I used to try to hide my problem and was extremely embarrased about it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	There were no actual side affects physically. I have always been an ecceptional athelete, but quit playing team sports when I developed this problem.
