CommentsI've had pectus carinatum since I've been 11 years old. I've always been very self conscious and felt at unease because of my deformity. I started working out alot, put on some weight but I didn't look any good because of my protrusion. About 2,5 years ago I started looking up my condition in the Internet, this was one of the first websites I came across.Got an appointment with a surgeon a a few months later, said he could do the surgery. Two years later I was still waiting, so I started to look for other options abroad. That's when I came in contact with Prof.Schaarschmidt in Berlin, Germany. He had developed this new minimal invasive repair for P.C. and had tons of experience. Went down to have the surgery, now just 2 weeks post op I'm left with a minimal scar and I'm back to normal, even running. Results were amazing, I now have a perfect flat chest. I could not be happier.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes indeed, always been self consious.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Had some pretty bad pain when running fast etc.
What do you think of this website?Good, altough it could be updated with Prof.Schaarschmidts minimal invasive pectus carinatum repair.

Commentsi'm 15 and have had pectus carinatum for about 3 years now. i became really self concious about it. a few months after discovering i had pectus carinatum, i visited my doctor who didnt know what it was and told me to live with it. i continued to battle for an operation for this and 2 years later i went to swansea to see a surgeon. on may 16th i went through the operation. it is very painful after the operation. i was in hospital for a week. i'm on my 3rd week after the op and doing fine but still in some pain.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes it did quite badly. i would never dream of being seen with my top off, it spoilt many family holidays.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?not as much as psychologically. so i guess i was kinda lucky!
What do you think of this website?what a cool website and everything is right on here! this website made me realise i had pectus carinatum. if anyone would like to ask me any questions about surgery or anything at all you can email me. [email protected]

CommentsI'm wondering how much it costs roughly to have surgery to correct PE. In Australia we have public health, like the UK and Canada, but have no idea whether it would cost $500, $5000 or $50 000. If you have any clues, please email me and let me know.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yep, I'm hesitant to take my shirt off (which sucks when you live by the beach) or to wear tight shirts, and it makes me hesitant to get physical with the ladies.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Possibly. I'm fit and am joining the Army but notice I get short of breath a lot quicker than people who do much less exercise than me. I thought it might have been asthma (my breathing capacity was only 70% of my age/weight/height average) but tests results just in say I don't have it. I also have bad posture and back pain, though that may not be related.
What do you think of this website?Good. I really hope my question above gets answered.

CommentsI'm a 36 yr old male and have PE, primarily on the left side of my chest. It has never affected me physically as I have participated in sports, and other activities and continue to do so. I continuosly workout hoping to improve the area in hopes to build it up but it's still quite visible. I would like to see and talk to a doctor in this area to see what can be done. Can you recommend anyone in the Miami area?
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Somewhat. Especially when I have to partake in water and outdoor activities. I tend to be more self conscience and grow somewhat anxious.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?NO
