| Comments | I am 37 years old and my father and brother and two sons and myself have this problem. my own being the most severe. my ribs are very warped, my sons seem to have the whole more than me. as achild my parents took me to the doctors and ther concerns were dismissed because it was not life threating. i did not even know the name until yesterday of the condition and always thought my family were on our own. my husband made me think that there must be something that can be done when our youngest son was born with it very noticable but yet again the doctors have dismissed our worries. is there any doctors who can help us. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | yes very much so as a child . I was teased and called four t..ts. and other names. i would never take part in sport and always stand with my harms crossed. i still do. my ribs stick out and clothes never look nice. i am concerned for my sons and thank god my daughter does not seem to have this problem. as i felt very unhappy as a teenager. my husband says he never notices them but i feel ugly |

| Comments | I have a daughter age 12, she has been diagnosed with pectus excavatum. She has been offered the Nuss op. She feels that she would like to talk to others who have had the op in order to find out how painful it may have been, what restrictions they had during the time after the op, until removal.
she would like to talk to young teenage girls, whom she feels she could relate to. |

| Comments | My 12 year old daughter has just had the Ravitch procedure performed on her 'sunken chest'. She was admitted to hospital on tuesday & discharged on Friday. She has a 5" vertical incision on her chest which looks much better than some of the photos provided on this website. She is over the moon with her new 'flat' chest. She is obviously tired from the surgery but is now taking no pain relief whatsoever. She has been an absolute star through the whole thing. Obviously, she is unable to over-exercise at present but is walking around just as she was before the op. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | It only affected her mildly. We've recently been on holiday and she still wore her bikini. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Yes. Her chest was quite sunken and she noticed lack of ability with sporting activities due to breathing problems |
| What do you think of this website? | Great to know of other sufferers and contact them for advise or information |

| Comments | My pectus deformity is a combination of pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum. My breastbone protrudes at the top, then is concave down the center. Please tell me if you've ever seen a case like this before. I'd really like to get it corrected so that I can wear low-cut shirts and have CLEAVAGE for the 1st time in my life! |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | It affects me a lot more that it probably should. But I have a nice body, I'm 5'3" 113lbs, and just wish I could show off my chest and some cleavage, but my chest is so messed up I don't like other people seeing it. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | I have heart palpitations and chest pain occasionaly, and have passed out a few times from the palpitations. My cardiologist told me to just "live with it", but I don't WANT to! I also am constantly bumping the top part of my sternum that sticks out on my car door when I lean down to get in. |
| What do you think of this website? | I wish it had more pictures, and please contact me to let me know if you've ever seen "combination" defects of both deformities, and what your surgical recommendations would be, and what the appx. cost of this procedure would be. Also, where is the closest thoracic surgeon to NY state? |

| Comments | before viewing this site i felt like i was the only one with pectus deformity. it feels odd talking about my condition, probalbly cos i've never brought it up.
i consider myself to be very strong minded person and don't allow the situation to get on top of me, but i can't deney that i've never thougth of correctual surgery. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | i do feel insecure about myself occasional, but who doesn't. i actually push myself more, not allowing myself to use it as a excuse. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | i was a keen sports man in my teens, i loved to swim and run. usually it was my fittness which stopped me first and not my breathing. since then i've become a smoker and its gone down hill from there. |
