CommentsHello. I have a not so severe case of pectus excavatum, but it is still quite noticable. Is there a clinic in the UK which performs the Nuss style of operation?
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes sometimes. I am constantly looking at myself to see if it is noticeable and it makes me feel uncomfortable when people point it out.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? Not really, but i tend to go quite red in the face quite easily. Can perform for quite a substantial amount of time e.g. A football match
What do you think of this website?Very helpful source of information

CommentsAfter seeing photo´s on the web, I think I probably have a less severe case of PE.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?I am now 35 and like with some other people with PE I am still very conscious of my physical appearance. I can´t feel confortable taking my shirt off in public and it has always been an issue for me in relationships as well. I have felt uncomfortable about it from my early teens but I wasn't aware of it being a recognised condition until this evening. I think I could have enjoyed the last twenty years a lot more without it. Still, wouldn't have fancied a surgical scar that much either.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? From early childhood I suffered with asthma and chest infections and I have always been slightly round shouldered with protruding stomach, which makes the physical appearance worse. I'm not sure about current health problems and I would like to find out more, but I am reluctant to bother my GP(NHS) for fear of being sneered at. I don't think I have the same endurance at sport as others but I am still able to play football and cycle etc. Often get a fluttering feeling in my chest on exertion and always develop a bright red face during exercise?
What do you think of this website?Interesting.

CommentsI have lived with this for a long time. As a singer/actor/model I have been quite self concious of it and am often asked about it on dates. I cannot do work shirtless or in anything tight. I also have mild scholiosis, mild swayback, and some heart thing that I can never remember what it is called. After reading about different procedures, I am considering having it corrected.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes. I am rarely without a shirt in public, I'm often afraid that people won't want to date me because of the deformity and the constant ridicule as a kid really damaged my self esteem. As a singer, I often don't have proper posture as my chest tends to be more noticable when I stand properly.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I am now wondering if it has been part of the reason for all of the lung infections I've had as well as my heart beat abnormality.
What do you think of this website?Very informative and helpful.

CommentsI have trouble with the deformity. Mainly the cosmetic side, but accasionly it can be painful too. I would be nice to have a day , even an hour when I didnt have to think about it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes. I keep it to myself though. I've never spoke to anyone about it though. With deformities, most peoples first reaction is to go 'eeerrgh whats that'.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Sometimes it can ache or even hurt. I think sometimes this can be from the way you hold yourself to try a disguise it.
What do you think of this website?I think its good. I've never tried to find this info before. I was thinking 'no-one else has probably got this' My chest protudes, I've only ever seen people with the caved in chests.

CommentsI am 37 years old and my father and brother and two sons and myself have this problem. my own being the most severe. my ribs are very warped, my sons seem to have the whole more than me. as achild my parents took me to the doctors and ther concerns were dismissed because it was not life threating. i did not even know the name until yesterday of the condition and always thought my family were on our own. my husband made me think that there must be something that can be done when our youngest son was born with it very noticable but yet again the doctors have dismissed our worries. is there any doctors who can help us.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes very much so as a child . I was teased and called four t..ts. and other names. i would never take part in sport and always stand with my harms crossed. i still do. my ribs stick out and clothes never look nice. i am concerned for my sons and thank god my daughter does not seem to have this problem. as i felt very unhappy as a teenager. my husband says he never notices them but i feel ugly
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?not really, i do get breathless and bad coughs. both sons have asthma
What do you think of this website?this was so helpfull to me but i would like somemore help on surgery and talk to other people about this and you cannot contact anybody on this site.
