Comments	i think my daughter has pectus carinatum after buying her first bra it was so obvious in fact her hips dont sit level either with one side straight and the other side is curved
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	rachel is not too bad although she mentions it from time to time espically if i see her changing clothes
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	after starting secondry school in 2003 there have been phone calls to collect her as she is feelin ill,dizzy or on one occasion she has fainted after p.e she also when asked to go up stairs to get something she complains that her legs r weak and she is out of breath (i had this put down as her oncoming period)she also complains about a sore back from time to time.

Comments	I am 53 years old and have had P.E all my life. I have never learned to live with it. I still dont take my shirt off in front of anyone but my wife.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I have always been concious of how I look with my shirt off. On holidays I always see people looking at my chest although I think it isn't severley deformed.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I have problems taking deep breaths and have had M.E for 4 years. Don't know if the fatigue has anything to do with P.E.

Comments	My daughter has pe and we are just waiting to see the pediatric surgeon to see what he will want to do. She is 10 so her Dad and I feel that the decision should be hers, with some input of ours too, if the doctor leaves it up to us whether or not to do the surgery. If she does have to have it...there are alot of people praying for her and we feel she will be just fine. If she does not have the surgery, we told her that everyone is born with something not quite right...no one is perfect and that she will be ok.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	It does not seem to affect her much. She is very out-going, very positive and has good self-esteem...she always has. She talks about it and asks ? sometimes, but she really does seem to handle it well. We have always told her that she is special, beautiful, how blessed we feel that God chose us to be her parents and that she can do anything that she sets her mind to do if she believes she can. I think that is how she handles it so well. With telling her that she is the most special thing in the world and building her confidence, we also told her that that is how every other parent feels about the child that they love too.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	She has always been very into sports and very active physically. She has a few chest pains but it does not slow her down any, and they may not even be related to the pe.
What do you think of this website?	It is great. I have tried to read as much as I can about pe. I enjoy reading what others have to share.

Comments	I thought your website provides an interesting insight into this condition and its effects. Living with 'funnel chest' I wish I had been given more information and guidance from doctors as I was growing up. I found this website very informative
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I would say it does, but not to some of the extremes mentioned on this site. I'm very concious of it being there and would'nt go topless when I was younger. I guess I have got older and as I have got into weight training and sporting activities, my convidence has grown and it is less of a problem.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I have seen a few sights that have mentioned individuals with chest deformaties have problems playing and participating in sporting activities. I would say that this is completely wrong in my case. I have always been keen on sport and go to athletics and play badminton and tennis. I have also played them to a high level. So I'm not sure about that statement. I have noticed however that my lung capacity is smaller than most of my friends and I do suffer from asmatha now and again. But I don't believe this deformaity has anything to do with my capacity to excell at sport.
What do you think of this website?	I beleive this is a good way of getting information over to suffers of chest deformaties. I would however like to see more information available to younger kids, possibly through leaflets or advise from specialists

Comments	I never had any idea that pectus deformity was so common. I'm seriously considering surgery. I hate the way I look. Sad I know but it is an issue for me.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	As a child my parents always told me I was normal and never made an issue of my p.e. School was never a problem as nobody took much notice and everyone just accepted I had a "huge hole in my chest". No teasing, no jokes, no pointing. I always went swimming and would run around on the beach topless while on holiday. However it was in my late teens / early twenties that I began to feel self concious of my chest. I would avoid any situation where I may have to take my top off in view of others. Now in my early thirties I would never consider going swimming or taking my top off in public. I still participate in various sports but I change facing the wall or wait until most people have left the changing rooms before removing my top. I never shower afterwards which many of my teammates find odd. I will only wear certain clothes and constantly look in the mirror to see if my t-shirt highlights my deformity. I have no idea why I began to feel self concious of my chest it just happened. Now considering surgery. Would love to go swimming again!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Not at all. Always played football, cricket, squash etc without any problems.

Comments	Hello. I have a not so severe case of pectus excavatum, but it is still quite noticable. Is there a clinic in the UK which performs the Nuss style of operation?
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes sometimes. I am constantly looking at myself to see if it is noticeable and it makes me feel uncomfortable when people point it out.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Not really, but i tend to go quite red in the face quite easily. Can perform for quite a substantial amount of time e.g. A football match
