CommentsI am a mother of a 15 month boy who has a very obvious case of pectus excavatum. It has been visible since he was a month old. I am just trying to find out more information because no doctor that I have seen will ever even address it when I ask.

CommentsI've lived with pectus carinatum for nine years. Only last night did I finally hear a name for it--my boyfriend went on the Internet and found information that helped us both. I dare say he's been more help in 11 months than my parents were these past 9 years!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Absolutely. My mother was one of the parents you describe on the site as calling attention to my ribs--a lot of unwanted and emotionally damaging attention. I felt like a freak for many years. My body image still suffers, but I've come a long way in therapy!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Yes. My sternum is pushed out between my breasts. I have to choose bras that don't push up against it. It's probably also responsible for my decreased lung capacity--I can barely make it up a few flights of stairs.
What do you think of this website? The information on this website is spectacular. It confirms everything I knew and answers questions about things I didn't know. Thanks for being part of my journey toward healing--I hope you can continue to help many others like me!!
