Comments	I have pectus carinatum deformity. I noticed this when I was a child, and the deformity became worse as I grew up (now I am 22). After trying non-surgical (conservative) treatment with no sucess, I finally decided to correct it by surgery. I'm scheduled for chest surgery on december 14th, so wish me luck!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes, it does. In fact, it affected me psychologically during all my life, making me feel depressed sometimes.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	It doesn't, as far as I have noticed.

Comments	I am a 58 year old male who has had moderate pe ever since I can remember. My pe was never corrected. I do have a slight leak of the mitral valve and aortic valve. Both were diagonsed about two years ago.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	My pectus deformity has always affected me ever since early childhood. I became less self conscious of my pectus deformity as I approached adulthood but had a difficult time dealing with it psychologically as a child. I avioded activities which involved taking off my shirt.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	My pectus deformity does not physically affect me except for some occasional discomfort around the sternum when I exercise.
What do you think of this website?	I am glad it is available for people with the pectus deformity. We can share with others our experiences and ideas concerning pe.

Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Not to the point of not be able to exercise or anything like that sometimes I get some pain when doing setups but not severe....
What do you think of this website?	I think its very informative my doctors told me that this was a very common thing but I have never been around or met anyone with this problem..

Comments	hey folks, i wasnt born with pectus excavatum,but it was something that became more and more apparent in my teens(im now 16)having seen are local doctor a few years ago he just told me i had to live with it!so 3 years later i went i saw a different doctor as the condition was appearing to be getting worse,fro there i wass reffered to a doctor then a consulatant and then finally a thoracic surgeon,who said within 2 minutes i could have an operation to correct if i wish(6 month waiting list),having though about it i decided it was best to have it done now i had the chance.Belive me that 6 months flew by,i was kinda nervos yet exited too,so in i went to hospital and met the surgeons, they told what they were going to do and such,i was told i was having it done via key-hole surgery however they thought the recovery rate was faster on their version(a modified ratvitch procedure with a bar) and also it was easier as they was acces to my ribs ect,so on the mornig of the op i was already the nurse came and gave me my pre-med(chills you out)that really relaxed me i cant realy remember being taken anywere but i remember being in the anethatists room were they put an epidural in,i remeber him saying lean forward and thats it,around 2 and a bit hours later i was in recovery in no pain just vey sleepy,i was riged up to stuff like a drip and all that,but your not realy in a position to care about that you just want to sleep,i think i must have slept for the whole day they then took me of the drip as long as i kept hydrated by drinking alot,by the following ay i had come round,by know i was in a bit of pain(thats expected i had some fractured ribs and my sternum was fractured)the next day i was up and walking it was a bit awkwared though i had a urine-catheter,2 chest drains and an epidural pack and wire thingy on my wrist so they could inject it there rather than in my arm,by late friday they came and turened down my epidural pack to 2(the lowest seting)the catheter was taken out as were the drains and the wire thing going in to my vain was taked out too,by the next day the epidural was taken out and i was told i could go home 24hrs after that!the pain isnt as bad as you would expect just tender,i also have a 4inch scar across my sternum that doesnt hurt though,suprisingly i was only in hospital for 5 days!im now at home on paracetamol and painkillers,i have been told that it will take on average six weeks to heel,im very pleased with all of it!if you have the option to have the procedure take it,the results are amazing i have a completely normal chest now!please email me if you wish to ask me anything. Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	havent been swimming for ages,or had me top off,i never got changed in front of other lads,i dont like people touchin my chest,but know that will all change.

Comments	However body-building type exercises usually result in worsening of cosmetic appearance due to the enhancement of the pectoral muscles. I talked with a doctor and he said that it would be less noticable if i were to bench press.
