Comments	im 26 with P/E.(my dad has it too) ive just been offered the Nuss procedure. results look amaizing but im really worried about taking it up. please feel free to contact me if you have had it done or if you just want a chat. my doctor didnt know anything about it and kept putting me off, im very angry as i should have had this fixed over ten years ago when i first went to doctors about it
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yes hugely, even tho its only about a 5 out 10 in severety. noone ever see's it appart from long term girlfriends/ family/ doctors!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	i suffer from bad back. chest pains. breathlessness (sometimes). im allergic to alcohol/ cannabis/ and too many fags!! they all bring on breathlessness and heart/chest pain. (this is only in the last 2 years) i believe this is all linked.
What do you think of this website?	its good, this should be more publicised tho, my doctor had no idea!!

Comments	I am 25 and had a very deep pectus excavatum and as with most sufferers i have been extremely self concious all through my teens and twenties. i would like others to know that there are less extreme ways to correct the excavatum. I have recently had an operation where the surgeon injected a product called restylane into my chest which apparently has only been available for this procedure for about two years. its the stuff they inject into peoples wrinkles. its a liquid filler and over time your body encapsulates it so there will be no need to go through more surgery later on like you have to with silicone. The result has been amazing however i will need a bit more injected in a further operation. after the operation i was up and about after a couple of days and only had an over night stay in hospital. there was a bit of pain but nothing severe. the good thing about it is the surgeon can stick a needle in and remove or top up the restylane at any time. i was lucky enough to get this procedure on the NHS otherwise i think it would have cost about £10,000.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yes it has done i have had eating disorders in the past and i think this is connected with it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	i have always been active doing gymnastics and horseriding. but i have noticed that i dont have much respiratory indurance.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	i cannot take my top off in public or in front of no one.it took me a year or more to take my top off with the light on in front of my girlfriend.i know how crul kids can be about people that are diffrent,so im dreading the day when i have to take my kids to the swimming pool with there friends looking at 'the freak dad'...
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	it dose not effect me at all physically,there is no pain,once in a blue moon i get a nip/stabbing feeling in my ribs but that is all.
What do you think of this website?	fantastic,i went to the doc's when i was about 15 and he scared me off with the complications of this operation,i always thought to my self it will only be a matter of time until men could have a implant. thanks a lot

Comments	I'm 24 years old and I was born with a concave chest. My dad has it and so does my uncle (his brother), so I'm assuming it's hereditary. It's pretty deep (about 3 inches in) but the doctors say there's no health risks so I should be fine living with it. The only reason for surgery would be purely cosmetic.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I would say yes. I'm not depressed or suicidal or anything, like some articles on PE say, but I'm pretty sure my self-esteem has been affected by it both while growing up and as I continue to grow. I don't like to take off my shirt at the beach or at the pool because of the stares, but I'm getting better at doing it. Who knows, those stares might be all in my head. What I do know is, and what I will keep trying to convince myself of, is that everyone's got their own thing they don't like about their body. Mine just so happens to be blatantly obvious when I'm shirtless. Oh well, play with the cards you're dealt, I guess.

Comments	I have pectus carinatum deformity. I noticed this when I was a child, and the deformity became worse as I grew up (now I am 22). After trying non-surgical (conservative) treatment with no sucess, I finally decided to correct it by surgery. I'm scheduled for chest surgery on december 14th, so wish me luck!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes, it does. In fact, it affected me psychologically during all my life, making me feel depressed sometimes.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	It doesn't, as far as I have noticed.
