Comments	Hello pectus people I am a 51year old female and showed no signs of pectus carinatum until 4 years ago!!!! I noticed by back was starting to look rather curved at the top and swaying in slightly at the hip making my clothes hang strangely. Also my chest bone was protruding more than usual making it difficult to get clothes to fit properly. Most people had not noticed anything different about me. A consultant diagnosed pectis carinatum along with thorasic scoliosis of the spine and kyphosis (curved back). I have also just been diagnosed with the onset of osteoporosis and have to take Fosmax biophosphate tablets He told me I was probably born with scoliosis and the pectus carinatum has been caused by the scoliosis i.e. balancing the back??? but if so - why has it only started to show recently???? He told me not to worry it was too minor for surgery and would not get any worse Ha Ha
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes it is just starting to as I feel it has become noticeable to other people. I am not as confident and I worry about what the future will bring.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Well it has got a little more prominent over the last 4 years and I no longer want to wear a swimming costume or anything low cut or clingy. Luckily I have no pain and it does not stop me from doing anything at this stage. I no longer go mountain biking as I would worry about taking a hard fall.
What do you think of this website?	excellent I had previously failed to find any information. I would say my pectus carinatum looks about the same as your photo illustration.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yes! i dont allow my self to be seen by anyone topless. I even hate looking at my chest. In PE another guy said i have a hole in my chest. I am really self conscious of it and WANT IT FIXED

Comments	Hi, i am sad to say that i too have 'pectus excavatum', which until now, my friends and i have referred to as a crater or a 'dip'. I am in an educational institute where out of a total of 180 pupils, around 5 persons have pectus excavatum in my age category (16-17). Would you be willing to come to my school and run an awareness seminar, highlighting how we as a people are discriminated against profusely. Comments	My son has a protruding chest {looks like a pigeons chest} I have noticed he can't run very well, it's as if his upper body is in the way. I need more info on this deformity.

Comments	I think this is a good site for people who want to gain more info and knowledge about pectus excavatum.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I'm 40 years old, and find it difficult to have men view my chest while in relationships. I have had surgery to correct my condition, however, it didn't help. I am left with scarring on my chest. I am very self conscious about my chest, and to make matters worse, my breasts are small. I also have scolosis.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Yes, it does. I have to be careful when I buy tops, due to the fact I have scarring from my chest surgery. And also because of my small breats, I need to wear a padded bra. As a woman, I really don't feel all that attractive with pectus.
What do you think of this website?	I think this website is a good and useful website. It will help parents who have children with this condition. It is also informative and helpful.

Comments	I have been aware of a dent in my chest since the age of 12, but I have never investigated it further since my parents have always maintained that it is due to bad posture. I am now 20 and only became aware of the disorder following a doctors appointment for a chest infection, where he mentioned i have moderate PE. Alhough the doctor says it should not affect my cardiovascular system, i have always found it hard to keep up with my peers during exercise despite having a similar level of fitness to them.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Not particularly now, but whilst at school I was of course reluctant to expose my upper body. I have also recieved much abuse for my comparative lack of fitness, earning me the nickname Half Lung!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I often find that during exercise with friends I have to push myself to exaustion just to keep up. On some occasions I can feel my heart beating against my chest, and follwing a physical test at the gym it has emerged that I have a dangerously small lung capacity and peak flow rate.
What do you think of this website?	Excellent - I have only just discovered PE and it is great that sites such as this exist to help and educate sufferers.
