Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes it did throughout my adolesence, it made normal sexual growth/experience tricky and an anxiety ridden experience. Girls definatley didnt understand it and my peers made me feel like i was subsidery to them because of it - All things i fought and grew out of. i wont have it any other way though, it forced me to persue more honerable useful things in life and look at things for more than their cosmetic value and having battled all those insecurities, im far stronger than my peers for it. however "all the he man magazines and wieght lifting in the world won't change it a bit"
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?not that i thought of until recently, i am in training to be a fire fighter - got through all tests. but i have noticed physically i have to breath a lot harder to get the same endurance as everyone else and i get aches and stiffness in my upper back and neck
What do you think of this website?very informative web site but like the hundred other ones failes to provide a guide because from what im led to believe most GP's will turn a patient away.

CommentsI have a 1/2 inch dip. it may not seem much an i have heard account of people getting bullied for this disease. However i feel mine serves me well :) i can balance cereal bowls in it and it is the envy of all my friends. im not even joking about this, i quite like it. i know behind my back my friends think its not nice, but im the one who can eat breakfast in bed without sitting up :)
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?makes me sad nowand again but as i said above i find it quite funny
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?yeah im small weak and round shouldered... oh and i have a dip
What do you think of this website?pretty good, any publicity is good publicity. who nows one day we may have a prime minister with a dip.

CommentsI think this website is an excellent way of informing people about this condition. I have lived with funnel chest for 22 years and I am just beginning to research what it really is. At the moment i'm not thinking of surgery because I feel that my pectus externum isn't that bad, but it's nice 2 know there are surgical options out there.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?I believe this is an area which effect me the most. I have always been told by my parents that its not really noticable, but you really know it is deep down. I avoid taking my t-shirt off in public and don't go swimming, but since getting into training and weights I have foung my convidence skyrocket. Training has really allowed me to develope better self image, and although I can't correct the deformity, by training I can make my body look the best it can, and that makes me feel good. Weights definitely reduces the apperance of the deformity 2!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? The deformity has never really effected the things I do. Obviously I do have a lower oxygen intake and shortened breath. And I do suffer from chest infections and a little bit of asmatha. But these things I feel I can't put competely on the condition. I see them as obstacles that need overcome. If I have lower oxygen intake, I exercise more 2 increase my fitness. And 2 the people who say that individuals with the condition usually don't do well at sports and hide away, they are talking rubbish. I would be the first one on the athletics track. I competed for my school and competed at national level. so I suggest they rethink that comment.
What do you think of this website?I think this websites excellent! it plays a important role in educating young individuals with the condition which maybe looking for help. I would like 2 see a more scientific analysis of the conditon e.g how many people it effects, is the incidennce of the condition rising, what is the cause, latest research into the condition and the likely hood of it reoccuring in the family later down the line.

CommentsI'm 29 and female, finally seen a specialist a week ago. This took 2 years to finally see the right person who could give me any information. (although i did first see a doctor when i was 13, told then that was just the way it is!) Still a bit shell shocked from it all at the moment and yet to find out more info! Went to find out about the nuss but as i have Pectus carnitum and pectus excavatum only able to have the ravitch. I was told to look at this website and then make my decision! I think a little harsh but there you go. My main concern after reading this website is the affect on my health later in lifeand although i am 29 i do find the cosmetic side extremely hard going too. so if there is anyone out there who can offer advice i would very much appreciate it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yep! Although as i get older i remind myself how lucky i am in other ways in life and to appreciate what i have. No one can go shopping with me for a bra, say a dress to wear for a wedding, etc,etc because i don't think i would stay as strong as i have to on my own. i don't like people to see the hell i face! Plus i don't think people, even close mates really appreciate how hard it is and what a nightmare it is. I have and probably always will cry when it comes to dealing with it but always by myself.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Generally i think i am fairly fit, i get tired but i have a demanding job and am extremely busy. So who wouldn't get tired. i get odd sharp pains but i always thought and still do at the moment that i am sure other busy people do.
What do you think of this website?A great website as it is the first place to get any information for me. But, still not much on here for me to help with having both PE and PC. Plus not much on females. Good work though!
