Comments	I am now 32 and have had Pectus Carinatum all my life, all by myself. When iwas 12 or so i went to the g.p to try to assertain what it was and he had no idea! I was asked a leading question if would like some painful and dangerous surgery by a board at my hospital(to which i declined.)I was shown some shoulder rolling exercises and sent on my way. This morning, on a whim i typed 'chest deformity' into google and found this site and that the condition had a name! wow!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Most definitely. The level of paranoid self-awareness has faded with age, so i just don't think about it as much but this condition has formed me. Anxiety problems arose from 'keeping a secret' with baggy clothes and constant alert to being 'exposed' as a freak. A fear of physical closeness did wonders for further feelings of isolation and now i can swing wildly from extreme vanity to self loathing in a heartbeat. However, as you get older, you gain a different perspective and care alot less about it...honestly!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I really don't know. Chest pains until now considered to be indigestion are now seen in a new light having read this site! For me, physical exercise was never my thing, being so weedy and wearing 17 layers of clothing all the time -but in the last few years i've discovered that i'm not as fragile as i thought and have changed my physicality. I've muscled up by mountain biking and becoming a gardener and i'd wholeheartedly recommend that combination of fresh air and exercise to anyone reading this with any sense of recognition. I can now see a bright for me and my funny-shaped chest.
What do you think of this website?	This website has been a revelation. Thankyou very much and forgive me if i read a little emotionally. Please feel free to contact me if you need any advice based on what i've said or if you know of any (gulp!)support groups you'd recommend.

Comments	I didnt know my deformity was a reconised condition untill about a month ago. Like many others i thought i was alone with PE but its so nice to heat that im not. i recently had an appointment with a local bone surgeon who told me i was making a big deal out of nothing! but i now have an appointment with a specialist off this website...a mr barnard at the freeman hospital. My best advies is dont give up! go to your GP with as much information as possible if your wanting to be referred!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yes a great deal. it has caused me depression in the past and i had to go and see a psycologist for a while as it affected me that much. I dont go swimming and have even turned down holidays abroad because of it. i know these arnt major things but they still affect quality of life. Now i know i dont have to live with this im wanting to get it fixed
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	No it doesnt. many pectus sites do state that PE affects people mentally the most

Comments	A fantastic website, informed me a lot, I never knew that there was a name for what I had before! Thanks. After reading the site I'm going to the GP on Friday to see if I can get a referal for surgery. Sadly I'm not too optomistic.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Not a masiive amount, I am concious of it and it does depress me. I don't enjoy going swimming and usually avoid it if I can.

Comments	I have noticed that I have P.C and I'm afraid of making a wrong choice whether I should go under the knife or wait a while. I've been to about 4 different types of doctors and surgeons and only one has come up with the answer P.C. It's very difficult in today's world especially when most people expect perfection.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes I feel neglected by others and sometimes I wish I could wake up and see myself as someone with a normal chest. But I know others are having the same difficulty as I am so I feel like I'm not so different. I also have duck feet so it just lowers my self esteem.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Some times it does. I do Tae Kwon Do and it does if I take a hit to the chest or when we twist our bodies to be able to kick or train. I also attend gym training as my school sport to do weights because one of my doctors told me I should be doing that kind of thing so that the pectus muscles overlap the problem. And hurts my chest sometimes.
What do you think of this website?	As soon as I had found some answers to help me find out about the P.C I think it helped me out alot and told me how to deal and stuff like that. I think it is very good.

Comments	I HAVE THREE CHILDREN THAT WERE BORN WITH A PECTUS EXCAVATUM AND ALL HAD SURGERY TO CORRECT THIS DEFORMITY. TWO SONS AND A DAUGTHER HAD SURGERY'S DONE IN OMAHA, NEBRASKA AND HUSTON,TEXAS.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	yes it did throughout my adolesence, it made normal sexual growth/experience tricky and an anxiety ridden experience. Girls definatley didnt understand it and my peers made me feel like i was subsidery to them because of it - All things i fought and grew out of. i wont have it any other way though, it forced me to persue more honerable useful things in life and look at things for more than their cosmetic value and having battled all those insecurities, im far stronger than my peers for it. however "all the he man magazines and wieght lifting in the world won't change it a bit"
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	not that i thought of until recently, i am in training to be a fire fighter - got through all tests. but i have noticed physically i have to breath a lot harder to get the same endurance as everyone else and i get aches and stiffness in my upper back and neck
What do you think of this website?	very informative web site but like the hundred other ones failes to provide a guide because from what im led to believe most GP's will turn a patient away.
