Comments	You did´t find a surgeon in UK, why not Germany? We have the largest Éuropean Nuss experience of now 460 cases (2005: 119 patients) and moreover developped a new minimally invasive pectus carinatum repair, which was very satisfactory in the first 46 Patients, but overall we did more than 170 pectus carinatum repairs. In my experience 6 weeks after the operation you can do all sorts of sports and full activity until the two bars for chest stabilization can be removed after one to two years . Thereafter the chest maintains its full stability. It would help if you could send me digital photographs from the front from both sides and oblique views from both side, so that I can give a first opinion. Comments	I had an operation for my Pectus Carinatum last year- 26 July 2004 on the 1st day of the Summer Holidays. I only notcied it that year too, and my family members noticed it too and i got it checked out and had an opration done. I never had any problems with it, such as breathing difficulties, and it never hurt.

Comments	I am now 32 and have had Pectus Carinatum all my life, all by myself. When iwas 12 or so i went to the g.p to try to assertain what it was and he had no idea! I was asked a leading question if would like some painful and dangerous surgery by a board at my hospital(to which i declined.)I was shown some shoulder rolling exercises and sent on my way. This morning, on a whim i typed 'chest deformity' into google and found this site and that the condition had a name! wow!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Most definitely. The level of paranoid self-awareness has faded with age, so i just don't think about it as much but this condition has formed me. Anxiety problems arose from 'keeping a secret' with baggy clothes and constant alert to being 'exposed' as a freak. A fear of physical closeness did wonders for further feelings of isolation and now i can swing wildly from extreme vanity to self loathing in a heartbeat. However, as you get older, you gain a different perspective and care alot less about it...honestly!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I really don't know. Chest pains until now considered to be indigestion are now seen in a new light having read this site! For me, physical exercise was never my thing, being so weedy and wearing 17 layers of clothing all the time -but in the last few years i've discovered that i'm not as fragile as i thought and have changed my physicality. I've muscled up by mountain biking and becoming a gardener and i'd wholeheartedly recommend that combination of fresh air and exercise to anyone reading this with any sense of recognition. I can now see a bright for me and my funny-shaped chest.
