CommentsI'm 14, I'm healthy, except of course my case of pectus carinatum, and I love sports. Pectus deformity actualy made me quit basketball because during practice, we'd play skins vs. shirts and that wasn't working for me. I really want surgery because living in this society with pectus carinatum really sucks- It makes me really depressed sometimes and I think, "why me!?" It seems worse than if I were dying, atleast people would show me some sympathy then! But not with this- i'm shunned and mocked
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Of course. Every day I have to find a shirt that makes the deformity less visible and every day I slouch, back away from people in fear that they'll hit me in the chest and then say, "What the heck is that weird bump on your chest!?" It really hurts and my deformity first became visible in 5th grade. It was in 5th grade that my classmates found out and mocked me, calling me names such as "uniboob" and, "you have a 3rd nipple!". It's really left a deep scar on me and my parents don't help, they just tell me that everyone has a cross to bear. I really want surgery, I don't want to have to go through with this through highschool as I'm 14 and about to become a Freshman. I really want to be able to swim again with confidence and without having the main topic of the day on my "weird bumb". It's affected me soo much and in so many ways-now I even have a slight back problem from slouching. I just wish I had parents who would listen to what I want, and what i've gone through. They don't know squat about what i've gone through. I just want to be normal, and have a normal life. It's even gotten so bad that some days at school, i'd go to the bathroom just to get alone and away from the eyes of my peers for a while.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Yes, atleast I think so. It seems like I have a lack of energy, and i've had my heart hurt sometimes. I'm not fat, and I have pectus carinatum. So i'm guessing that that's the reason. And it doesn't help much when I play football and i'm the best runningback on the team-coaches pressure me to run when my heart is hurting. Also, I of course don't know how to swim very well and it's not like i can get up and learn too easily with this. Even going running can be hard because the wind will push the shirt against me tightly and it shows my deformity.
What do you think of this website?I'm really glad I found it. My parents never really sent me to a specialist so I had no idea what my deformity was even called until just recently. I'm planning on maybe even showing my parents this site- to make them see all of the negative things my deformity can do to people.

CommentsI decided to look up the condition because I am 37 and it has had a negitive effect on my life for about 27 of years. I now have a one year daughter who I would hate to go through her younger years with this curse. I want to know the cause and way to help prevent it, diet or exercise for example.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes, It was teribble in my teens and early twenties. I felt very aware of being physical different and felt inferior. It lead to low confidence and avoiding for many years somethings I loved to do such as swimming. This have improved greatly with age. Although i will not let it stop me doing the things I want to do I am still self-conscious of it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Sortness of breath. In the gym doing dips I can feel my chest compressing and it can lead to short of breath and even dizzyness if I an not carefull.
What do you think of this website?Very good, I wish I had more information about the condition ealier in life.
