Comments	I have an atypical case of PE where the left ribcage is sunken and this began to become noticeable in my late teens, but my sternum is not (barely) concave. Dees anyone have any information on PE surgical repair in Canada? Please email any info at the address above.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes, it made me much more self conscious as it got worse once puberty set in.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	It began to affect me in my teens, as my left lung has much less capacity than my right lung. Pain, especially at night, when I sleep on my side or back.

Comments	I have hated my PE since I was a teenager and first went to hospital (without my parents knowing) when I was 15, only to be told it would be fine when I was out of puberty as I would bulk up. Well I have just turned 30 and nothing has improved ! I went to see my GP about 6 months ago who referred me to the local hospital and I has X-rays there. I then went to see the thoracic expert who was very rude to me, saying that I was wasting people's time and that I should have learnt to live with it by now and that the operation was very dangerous. He asked me why I was visiting doctors no. The only reason I had left it so long is that I can now afford to pay for surgery myself - he then went on to warn me about hack doctors and plastic surgeons. He referred me to a specialist at Guys Hospital but really put me off going saying that this doctor would be angry for wasting time when there are people dying etc. So I dropped the whole thing. I have now seen stories of a purely cosmetic procedure that involves a silicon implant (I guess it would be like getting a boob job) but it has been difficult to find out if this surgey is carried out in the UK. It would be self funding and I think I read it costs between £3k and £6k but it is less dangerous and far less downtime so I am going to look into it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. I think it got worse during high school, this was when other kids in the class noticed it in sports and I was teased a lot. I stopped playing sports and would never take my shirt off. Even now (I am 30) I still get very uncomfortable swimming and make a lot of effort to hide my upper body before going in the water. Same with gym, always change with my back to everyone. I get very uncomfotable when people get close and try and hug me or play fight with me in case they feel it. Also any clothing that is too tight makes my stomach look fat so I avoid that as well!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Not very much - I can't do a treadmill or ride a bike or run for very long, and if I am at the gym and do a lot of upper body exercise it sometimes feels like something is pressing heavily against my chest. No asthma or anything like that though.
What do you think of this website?	It's good to hear other people's stories because you realise that you are not the only person and that you are not being hyper sensitive, everyone is in the same boat. Site seems a bit outdated in terms of medical advances though.

Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	i wouldn't say that it severely affects me and im no more worried about how i look than i was before it worsened, i have always not been very keen on the way i look
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	yes i get quite a few muscle spasms in my lower rib area my ribs physically hurt to touch i get breathless during exercise and whilst eating if i eat just a bit too much i have problems breathing so have to lie more or less flat to stretch everything out
What do you think of this website?	i think it is really informative although since im having surgery in october i wasnt brave enough to look at the pictures of the surgery

Comments	I am so pleased to finally find a website that has information on Pectus Carinatum. I have suffered from this condition since birth but have found that later in life it has got to the better of me.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I do suffer from this psychologically everyday. I work within the public and am very self conscious of the way I look. I so want to be able to wear low cut tops and dresses and sexy bra's. I find myself always looking at other peoples chests with envy. I want ot be able to lay flat on my back without this protruding bone sticking out. Is there any medical procedure to help this condition?
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	The only health problem I have is I suffer from asthma. However I do find if a push my protruding in I feel a relief with my breathing.

Comments	I'am a 25 year old adult and was born with pectus excavatum.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Not as much as it did when I was younger. I was picked on periodically in school because of it. If people have problem with it then thats their problem.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Not that I have noticed. I wouldn't really know since I don't know anything differnt.
