CommentsMy son has this condition, he is 18,a rugby player, and a keen builder. Since birth he has had this, all his parents have had from the medics is assurances and platitudes,in spite of complaining of heart flutters and occasional shortness of breath. He now shows slight signs of scoliosis[his mother had to have an emergency operation to correct severe scoliosis in her mid forties after a life time of platitudes and pain, her grandmother also had a curved spine and pidgeon breast]
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Although ,as a parent, the condition has been denigrated I am sure this has been made fun of by his peers, surely also affecting him deep inside
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?causes shortness of breath and occasional palputations
What do you think of this website?good clear info, answers to many questions, ammo when discussing with the medicos and a determination not to be put off by the medical know alls !

CommentsMy daughter is the one with the pectus carinatum. She is a diver. I was wondering if the impact of water tend to accentuate the growth of the cartilage? She is 15 and is starting to grow breast. She will probably have a large breast, will it help to hide, or will the bone difformity will accentuate the dismorphic setting of both breast. Sylvie Sorry for my English, I am Canadien french.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? As a mother, I'm worried that she will be affect with her starting relashion with boys. I don't believe that having her see a therapist now will help. I think it would only accentuated the wondering of the situation.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I am telling her, that she is better diver with that, because her lungs cavities have more space. ...!!!
What do you think of this website?I loved it, it is a great source of information. The picture showed her what the surgery to be more esthetic would live her as scars. No really esthetic, ?

CommentsHi! I am a 27 year-old italian boy affected by Pigeon Breast. Thank's to your information I have verify that a type of operation exists (Ravitich procedures) and that is possible to resolve the problem with a week of hospitalization and with a percentage of successes near 95%. This contrarily to how a lot of orthopedic of Palermo (city in which I live) and a "luminary" of the Milanese orthopedics said me, all in agreement in to sustain that surgical interventions able to resolve the defect don't exist ... Unlike the USA and the UK where they exist some sites that give precise indications on the problem and the contact of all the experts of the field with indication of the type of adopted procedure and of the number of the effected interventions and the relative successes, in Italy is impossible to get a clear picture on whom to address. I would like to know if you are able to give me some information . Thank you in advance.

CommentsI have Pectus Excavatum and tried to have it fixed in 1968, but the operation wasn't that successful.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?I don't think so and my wife hasn't said negative.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I feel that it does. It's hard for me to do any strenous exercise. I get shortness of breath because I feel like I have small lung capacity. Also, I worry that it might put pressure on my heart.
What do you think of this website?Good information. Please reply to my comments and thank-you.

CommentsI have an atypical case of PE where the left ribcage is sunken and this began to become noticeable in my late teens, but my sternum is not (barely) concave. Dees anyone have any information on PE surgical repair in Canada? Please email any info at the address above.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes, it made me much more self conscious as it got worse once puberty set in.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? It began to affect me in my teens, as my left lung has much less capacity than my right lung. Pain, especially at night, when I sleep on my side or back.
What do you think of this website?helpful. Wish there were more links for other countries.
