Comments	iv just found out the name of this condition from my doctor, i was unaware of the effects of it so decided to do my own reasearch, im now angre, ive have sufferd back pain, and annual difficulty in breathing since my "dip" started to develop, i was even bullied at school about it. im now 20, and i have ask two doctors about it, and the name was the only reply.

Comments	Hello friends I have a pectus carinatum and I'm proud of it. When I was younger I got used to beatings in the locker room because they thought i was some kind of an alien. Back in the old days people weren't aware of my deformation and I got labelled as a crippled guy. Now my birdie breast is just fine and I'm a happy man. Auf Wiedersehen... Ívar P.

Comments	this is an excellent site myself am 49 years old with a pectus excavatum-my chest goes in 7 inches when i was born my late parents were told i never live to see adult age-am stil going and plan to live to be 100 sure i have health problems but i don;t sports stil do, leed a norm life like anyone i have as well talk to people either in person or online about what it is like with it plus talking to parents how to acccept a child with it
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	i have been called in life when i haven't had my shirt on many names from freak to many others-even today people on a hot summer day ask me put my shirt on because they say it looks grouse but reality wise what is normal so my chest is different but then is anyone perfect it is hard sure at times being called names but let people accept me for me not my body hey god put me here for a reason too
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	sure i carry puffers with me and older i get harderit is i have experience going from a skinny week guy at 130lbs to going up as much as 250 lbs now i range at 175lb but i run, walk, swim do anything any other person does

Comments	I began to develop Pectus Carinatum at the age of 14-15 (I'm now 19), the bump gradually became larger as I got older. It didn't worry me but I decided to get it checked out anyway. My GP referred me to a specialist who referred me to another specialist who finally knew what the 'problem' was. He told me the options available and, together with my parents, I decided to opt for surgery. Thankfully it was available at my nearest hospital. I was a little nervous before-hand but the surgery was a complete success. I believe it was the Ravitich method and I would recommend it to anyone. I was in hospital for only 4 nights and it wasn't very painful.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I was slightly self conscious of the bump and tended to wear looser clothes and avoid removing my top. I was quite keen to have the surgery and since the surgery I've practically forgotten I ever had a bump. The scar is small too.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	It didn't before the operation and it doesn't now apart from not being allowed to play sport for 7 months.

Comments	I am seeking information as to whether, if surgery is felt to be appropriate, it cvan be obtained on the NHS and if so, how. My son suffers from pectus excavatum and is 12 years old.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes. He is embarrassed by his deformity, especially when changing (he is a goalkeeper and so has to change publicly). I think it may be giving him a generally negative image of his own body.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Hard to say. He does seem to suffer from a lack of stamina compared to his brother and peers.
What do you think of this website?	Very informative and reassuring to find that obstacles we are encountering are not unique to us.
