Comments	I'm 18 I have pectus carinatum due to a syndrome called Marfan, its rare and has no cure, because of this syndrome i also have a mitral valve prolapse, i grew fast so u have a lot of stretch marks, and i also have to wear glasses, Marfan Syndrome affects people in many ways, especially with the heart.

Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	well, i wake up with pains in my chest that make it to painful to breathe, i cant lay on my tummy properly, and a lot of my complications such as shortness of breath and the fact that im not supposed to over excert myself is due to the Marfan, I cant really have a normal teenage life, i never really have
What do you think of this website?	pretty cool, its nice to know im not the only one eout there and that people are supportive

Comments	Discovered "lump" in my 13 yr old son's chest a few weeks ago. Doctor didn't know what it was and x-ray came back normal. However, having read some research I believe he has PC. The "lump" is more like a bowing of the rib cage. I am going private to get second opinion. Does anyone know if it is normal for the deformity to appear "overnight" as it seemed to do with my son. Do x-rays usually show the deformity? Would doing lots of press-ups over last couple of months have suddenly made it show up? As far as I know, there is no history of PC running through our families. I'm a little upset as a month ago he looked completely "normal" and as he's growing so much, I'm worried it will get a lot worse.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Not yet, but if it gets much worse, as he grows them I think he may become more self-conscious. He thinks it's kind of cool at the moment!
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Don't think so - but he's never been very athletic. Wondering whether he should start press-ups again (he's in Army Cadets and needs to have good upper body strength.)
What do you think of this website?	Brilliant - I'm pretty sure it's helped me diagnose his condition (but I'll obviously await the private doctor's views). Would love to hear from anyone in similar situation.

Comments	i think that more awareness should be spread about pectus deformities. there are so many people who havent ever seen anyone with such deformities. also more research should be done into treatment of pectus deformities.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	i have got pectus carinatum, and it definately affects my psychology. i am 18 years old and my pectus carinatum has become very prominent during last 4-5 years.earlier i used to enjoy swimming a lot but now i feel embarassed to swim and take of my shirt in front of others.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	i dont face any physical problems as such because of my pectus deformity, i only face cosmetic and psychological problems.

Comments	i had the pectus surgery last december and i just went to the doctor and he said that i was goin to half to put another bar in and i was wondering if this is rare or if anyone has had this happen to them or someone they know?

Comments	I am a 34 yr old female who had always been bothered by my 'funny'chest.Over the years no doctor had even offered a diagnosis.Excepting the sensitive dr I saw when aged about 12 who asked if i'd had a car accident!!Finally I was spurred into taking action as i can see my young son has the same problem.I found your website and contacted my GP asking for a referral for myself and my son.To cut a very long story short I had a PE repair in Feb this year .Yes it was painful post op but no pain,no gain!I wish i'd known it could have been corrected years ago!Ihave a scar but I look fairly 'normal' for the first time in my life!My son is on hold for now,but as soon as he becomes aware/bothered by his PE,he will be able to see through my op that it can be corrected!
