| Comments | I am searching for a physician in our area who treats pectus carinatum with orthotics. I have contacted Arkansas Children's Hospital but they treat with surgery only. My daughter is 13 years old and is becoming very self-conscious about her condition. She was a preemie weighing only 2 lbs at birth and was diagnosed with BPD immediately. Perhaps her pulmonary condition has caused this. I don't know. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! |

| Comments | I'm 25 years old and after having a scan at my hospital have found that I have a pectus deformity. Although I've known it myself for quite a while before the "official diagnosis". It took me ages to build up the courage to go and see my GP who sent me up to the hospital for a scan. At the moment, my GP has "decided" not to mention the fact there are other options available. After gathering a lot of information, I'm making another appointment to see him. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | Yes, It has effected my self-confidence very deeply. I choose clothes carefully to try and hid the deformity and don't go out much because of it. I won't go swimming in public because of it, and its a constant thing that I'm always thinking of, so basically its taken over my life. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Yes, I get a lot of pain from it especially if I do a lot of exercise, also when I lay down or just generally walking about. I've been told by the GP that its not affecting my health but I'm fed up with the constant pain I get because of it. |
| What do you think of this website? | This is a brilliant website full of usefull information. Thank you. |

| Comments | I'm a 30 yr old male, and until today, had no idea what my condition was called...as far as I knew, it was always a pigeon chest. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | In ways, my deformity affects me psychologically, more so when I was younger. I've had a hairy chest for at least 6 or 7 years, which hides the fact that my rib cage sticks out. But when I was younger, I never met anyone or knew of anyone that had the same condition, and physical education at school, other kids would be quite hurtful in there comments.
So as a result, I've become very conscious of my chest, but it doesn't really affect me in any other way. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Not really. |

| Comments | Thank you for some insight into pectus excavatum. I have a 18 month old daughter with this condition and have not been able to find a web site here in New Zealand to help with questions that concern her health. In the last six months it has become quite bad. The doctor has ordered x-rays at this stage. I am concerned as hers seems to be quite severe with being so little. |
