CommentsI am a very active teenager that starts in Football(American), Basketball and Baseball. I was always aware of my chest deformity but did not know it affected others. I don't beleive this affects stamina or endurance as I am the third best distance runner in my grade.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? No I am disapointed that most "fixes" require no sports. Therefore I am content in building the pectoral muscles even though it is stated that this makes it worse. I am active socialy and in good mental health.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? No i don't think so if it has any affect i have basicaly overcome it. As stated before I start in three sports at my school.
What do you think of this website?Very helpful and informant.

CommentsI have had this deformity all my life and I have learned to live with it. I was created this way and I have realized more that looks don't matter, ya at times it is extremely embarassing, but it has helped me grow stronger to overcome my insecurities. I know, from experience, that people will still love you and you can have great relationships despite your problem. To everyone out there, I encourage you to accept yourself (if there are no health problems)because (this may sound a little cheesy, but it is entirely true), you are all beautiful and what's inside is truely all that really counts.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes, I have always been shy and a little insecure, but this is my trial to overcome and I can deal with that.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? It is hard for me to exercise or breath sometimes and it is a little scary.
What do you think of this website? It is a good source for information

CommentsI found out i had Pectus Excavatum at the age of about 8. My dad also had it. People always asked what it was and i wanted to tell them what it was. The problem was i didnt know what what it was. All i knew was that it was normal but rare because 2 of my friends have it also. I didnt lat it hold me back from doing anything. As of right now im swimming, playing soccer and baseball for my High School. I found that doing lots of pullups and pushups helped make the "hole" more discrete.

CommentsI'm 22 and I first became aware of my pectus carinatum in my first PE lesson at high school when people started pointing fingers. Apparently I had asthma as a baby that was untreated for sometime which might have made my chest worse. This was because I was allergic to feather pillows but my parents/doctors did not realise it. I went to see my doctor some years ago but he said if it isn’t broken then don't fix it (very helpful!). I am aiming to go and see my new doctor and ask to be referred to a specialist for surgery if possible. I’m guessing there’s going to be some serious pain to endure if I do ahead with the surgery but I guess its preferable to living a life alone.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Where shall I start! First of all I don't even like talking about it and have never discussed it with my friends. And to their credit they have never mentioned it either. I use to love going swimming, but no more and if I had lessons I would always fold my arms. T-shirts are out and so is hugging people properly. I never take my top off. I hate to embarrass myself but feel it necessary to show how deeply my chest has effected me. I have never been close to a girl without spelling it out because of my chest. I have considered suicide.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Nope.
What do you think of this website?Good! Nice to see there are other people in the same boat. No dates seem to show on peoples comments, so it's difficult to see how recent they are. I don't know if that's because people are not filling in the date or some technical error.
