| Comments | I must say, this is a very interesting site you have here. I've learned alot.
Anyway, I've been libing with Pectus Carinatum since I was around 12 I believe. I just dismissed it, until the summer when my uncle pointed it out. My mom freaked. We asked the doctor, and he said it wasn't really anything to worry about. And I don't worry about it. It's something normal for me, and it gets me attention at school. For me, it's good, because kids just get a grossed out look on their face and I just laugh (I'm turning 15 in February, so I'm a freshman, if anyone wants to know).
Of course now I know I have it because of my scoliosis (around a 32% curvature in the lower spine). |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | Nope. I love it. Gives me a good laugh when people see it and don't understand it. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Overall, I'd say no. There is the occasional person who thinks they can fix the problem by "pushing it in". After about a year of that, I now know that that doesn't work... It hurts though. |
| What do you think of this website? | Very informative. Although it seems alittle short, it does get to the point, which is good. I suppose that might be the only information out there worth posting. |

| Comments | My son has had pectus repaired in 2000 at Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville, KY. Repair was a success. My son is now a senior in at Trinty High School. He is a National Merit Semi Finalist. We are interested to see if there is any financial funding avaiable for someone who has been effected by pectus. He is looking into the medical field in research and delvelopment he has been accepted to Purdue University and has applied to the University of Michigan, as well as The Universities of Kentucky, and Louisville. Please let me know if there is anyway to pursue this further.
Thank you

| Comments | I was born with pectus excavatum and at the age of 4 started playing softball. I'm now 16, have been playing softball competitively for the past 12 years, but just recently I noticed that when we run in softball I can't catch my breath and that my chest hurts really bad to the point that I get a headache and have to sit down. I went to the doctor two weeks ago and he said that I'm pre-asthmetic and sent me on my way with two inhalers. He said that my pectus excavatum had nothing to do with it and to not worry about it...I think he's wrong. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | Not as much as some people think, it does bother me sometimes because I am pretty skinny and it's quite noticable...but I've learned to live with the way I look. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | Yes, as I explained above, when I run I get really short of breath and feel like I'm going to past out. Sometimes my chest just hurts randomly, even if I'm just sitting on the couch watching T.V. It really bothers me that my doctor and my parents think that it's not a big deal. |
| What do you think of this website? | I think it's really informative. Everything is to the point, and I want to show my parents but they don't think that anything writtin on the internet is actually true.
I obviously have a problem and nobody takes it seriously. |

When i was young i refered to it as my "hole". |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | no, i am ok with it now, but when i was younger i used to get poked in my hole when i when swimming. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | yes, i always experience pain after i eat, i don't know why, but i'm sure it has something to do with my PE.

| Comments | I am a very active teenager that starts in Football(American), Basketball and Baseball. I was always aware of my chest deformity but did not know it affected others. I don't beleive this affects stamina or endurance as I am the third best distance runner in my grade.
|
| Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? | No I am disapointed that most "fixes" require no sports. Therefore I am content in building the pectoral muscles even though it is stated that this makes it worse. I am active socialy and in good mental health. |
| Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? | No i don't think so if it has any affect i have basicaly overcome it. As stated before I start in three sports at my school. |
| What do you think of this website? | Very helpful and informant. |
