Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I thought it affected my stamina a little, not so sure, deffinetly i got pains from it, felt like my heart was being pushed on, also just the pure annoyance of it
What do you think of this website? Its nice to see a website dedicated to this, as most doctors are underinformed about pectus excavatum, and pectus carinatum, it seems to be a more growing open issue now, although it is very common.

CommentsHi, I am 38 and I have wide aera PE. For the last four months I have had daily treatments with Ekart Klobe Vacuum Bell and my chest has been raised from 5.9 to 4cm. The effect currently lasts a few hours but as time goes by the longer it is remaining raised. If you dont want the operations, you may wish to try the Vacuum bell.

CommentsMy son is 4 1/2 and born in the UK ansd he has a PE. His father has a flat chest with flared ribs at the base and his brother who is 9 has no defect. All the doctors that have seen my son have said that its ok, he will grow out of it. As a nurse myself, I am concerned about heart and lung problems, and as a mum I am worried about the effect of his chest being different! We live in the UK at the moment but we will return to Australia in a few years. While here in the UK and while he is young the PE doesnt pose much of a problem, but when we go back to Australia where no shirt is the norm, I dont want him to grow up with a complex.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? As my son is so young he isnt really aware that he is different. I do worry that as he reaches puberty (or before) that he will realise and get a hangup about his chest. He has a very gentle nature and I dont know if he will have the strength to brush it off and not let it bother him.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?I didnt really think about it, but he does tire easily and is quite happy to sit our vigorous activity. Not to say he is not fit and lively. But he does have the pot belly and rounded shoulders.
What do you think of this website? Its informative, but needs updating. A lot of the links are no longer available.

Commentsim 22 year old male. ive had pectus carinatum as long as i can remember. although it wasnt visable at birth.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yes i tend to keep people at a distance, for fear of their reactions. although my case isnt as bad as some ive seen i was teased as a child and developed a quick temper which just as quickly ended the teasing.in my high school years the few guys who found out treated me like a side show attraction telling everyone, "you have to see this", the few girls that found out were disgusted and treated me like i was contageous which was one of my worst fears growing up. i find it hard to start anykind of relationship and it has caused a really introverted personality which im fighting but it feels like an uphill battle.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?no im healthy and strong. i started working out trying to hide my problem but i turned out to be more of a distraction, merly buying time before people notice my deformity
What do you think of this website?great im not the type to go to a doctor unless im in unbearable pain so until recently i didnt know what was wrong with my chest
