Comments	I have pectus escavatum and had surgery in the beginning of March of 2005. It was not noticible as a kid but when I hit my growth spirt as a teen, it became noticable. I am glad I had the surgery. I like the fact that my chest is flat not caved in. I like walking around the house without a shirt and the scares are pretty cool!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	Yes, I did not like taking off my shirt in front of my friends and family. I avoided outdoor sports and activities.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	Yes it did. I could not run as far as my mom or keep up with my parents or friends when it came to outdoor activities. I tired easily.
What do you think of this website?	It a great way to exchange information for ones who are learning about this deformity or just researching the condition.

Comments	My son is 15 and has mild pectus carinatum. At this point he doesn't suffer and doesn't want to bother with surgery. But for those of you that are in the USA I would recommend Dr. Daniel Saltzman, Chief of Pediatric Surgery, at the University of Minnesota. While saying that the surgery is a personal choice he also stated that they perform several of these surgeries in a month's time---it's not so uncommon here. He gave us a brochure about pectus excavatum/carinatum that also had pictures of the surgery (that looked less invasive than the pictures on this site). Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	My son doesn't seem to be bothered by this (only annoyed)---we've only noticed it in the last 6 months---he prefers to ignore it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	At this point he doesn't experience pain or shortness of breath---but he's not done growing yet.
What do you think of this website?	I think this is a good website---very informative.

Comments	I'm 19. I truly have sympathy for folks with these deformities. I have PC, and, surprisingly, my sister has PE. Both are to a relatively large degree. She has some breathing troubles, and we both feel akward about clothing and nakedness.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	So, so, so very much. I do not mind the deformity so much, but shirts never fit me right. They always hang akwardly, or bunch up in bad places. My self-image is very low. I think this has contributed to a lack of confidence in most every area of my life. One simple little thing like that, go figure.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	I have akwardness in intimate situations, problems sleeping on my back and stomach and my posture is really bad.
What do you think of this website?	Honestly, I wish there were more pictures of people with PC and PE. Just normal pictures, not even invasive, barechested medical ones. It reassures me to see other folks with my deformity. I tend to paint myself as a monster in my mind's eye, but I don't really think other people look bad with these deformities. Otherwise, it's a pretty good site.

Comments	I'm 17 yrs old and I have pectus excavatum and I really don't know what to do about it! Do I forget about it and try move on with my life?! Or should go for a Op??!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?	I'd like to think that it doesn't but it does. I'm too embarassed to take off my t-shirt in public and I try to wear clothes that "disguise" it. Even walking down the street, I'm aware of my posture and try to stand up straighter.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?	No not really. I used to be able to, when I was younger run for a great length of time without getting tired. Recently, however, I seem to get tired more easily.

Comments	well i had this problem since i was 12 and now im about to turn 16. All the doctors told me 2 wait 6 months to see if it changes but it looks the same to me i think is about time 2 have a surgery but now my mom dont want to she thinks that is goin 2 go away but im goin to the doctor soon to see wat he is goin to say
