CommentsThis was so informative. I am looking for a hospital in Ontario to take my 15 year old daughter, and don't know where to go. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Lynda
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? My daughter is very self-com=ncious of her ribs, expecially as she is a dancer. Certain costumes show her ribs, and she cannot do certain exercises because her ribs are in the way.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? My daughter gets tension headaches and neck aches due to her slumped shoulders. She used to complain of her chest hurting but this seems to have gone.
What do you think of this website?I loved this website. My daughter is so sure she wants her ribs fixed and I didn't know where to look. This site has been tremendous.

CommentsI am a female and have Pectus Excavatum. I was born with this and have been told my child will have a great chance of getting it. The worst part for me has been being able to do less and my "chest" not growing like other girls!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? For the most part NO it was very hard when one side of my "chest" didnt grow making me uneven.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? Again The hardest part for me was not being able to run and do as much for as long and again one side of my "chest" didnt grow to match the other side.
What do you think of this website?I liked the website it taught me a little bit about myself that I didnt realize

Commentsi learned alittle about my psycology
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?yeah i think it did when i was a teenager. sublimanally i had to where big t-shirts or sweatshirts so no one would notice. one time i wore just a tee shirt and practically all my teachers at school noticed and asked me if i had a pacemaker or somthing on my chest. i didn't where tee shirts anymore. swimming was hard to do, because of no shirt at all. but when i got older i found weight lifting and my chest is developed well so no one can tell. i can go swimming and everything and it just looks like i have worked out alot on my chest.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?oh yeah same as above i work out now that im older.
What do you think of this website?ok but theres no testimonials. i know lots of people who have a sunken sternum but no one like what i have. for some people the old maxim rings true misery loves company.

CommentsMy husband and both my sons have P.E although my husband and younger son have it mildly, my 10yr old has it quite severely! He is a very sensitive boy lacking in self confidence. I never realised something could be done, like most in the uk I was told he would have to live with it.
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically? My son lacks confidence, has low self esteem and is very selfconsious of his PE. He gets depressed and finds it hard to talk.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically? He gets out of breath easily, and suffers cramps.
What do you think of this website?Fantastic help, thankyou I now realise something can be done and with a pushy mum like me hopefully something will be done soon for my wonderful little boy, who has so much to give yet hides behind his PE! I'll be on the phone tomorrow to my G.P. Thankyou

CommentsI have pectus escavatum and had surgery in the beginning of March of 2005. It was not noticible as a kid but when I hit my growth spirt as a teen, it became noticable. I am glad I had the surgery. I like the fact that my chest is flat not caved in. I like walking around the house without a shirt and the scares are pretty cool!
Does your pectus deformity affect you psychologically?Yes, I did not like taking off my shirt in front of my friends and family. I avoided outdoor sports and activities.
Does your pectus deformity affect you physically?Yes it did. I could not run as far as my mom or keep up with my parents or friends when it came to outdoor activities. I tired easily.
What do you think of this website? It a great way to exchange information for ones who are learning about this deformity or just researching the condition.
